Welcome to my author page!

This is the best place to find out about me, my upcoming releases, and the news about my writing. Thanks for taking the time to check out my website.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who works in the specialty area of health psychology at a large academic medical center. I work with individuals who live with chronic illness and who need to make important changes in their lives in support of their overall health and well-being.

My passion is understanding what helps people change so that they can lead lives that are physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially healthy. To understand this better, I read the research literature on motivation, persistence, and impulse control, and then I apply it to everyday problems.

Over the past fifteen years, I have delivered numerous presentations on willpower and personal change to medical patients, members of the community, and professional audiences. I have led and designed a number of psychotherapeutic groups that help individuals adjust to specific chronic medical conditions.

I am also a Certified Educator in Personal Finance. This specialty training helps me apply the psychological research on willpower to human financial behavior.

I enjoy hearing from readers, so please feel free to send me a message!

  1. I just finished reading The Diabetes Motivation Book, and want to congratulate you for a book well written. Even though I don’t have diabetes, I felt it was an interesting slant that can be given to other life problems….The length was perfect, not too long, not too short, and I feel one can get through it quickly without being overwhelmed.
    Job well done!

  2. I have read your Diabetes Motivation Book so many times, over and over! I have bought so many other books to help me manage this awful disease and nothing even compares to your book and the approach you take. I have told both my nurse educator and endocrinologist about it! After having said this……I am STUCK! I just can’t get started….I read your book, underline, highlight and dog ear my favorite pages….only to say tomorrow…tomorrow…tomorrow….I feel that if reading your clear and wise advice….and understanding just what steps I need to take to tackle this problem doesn’t help me……nothing will. Each day I indulge in really unhealthy eating and avoidance of testing and recording…..because I think…..I WILL START TOMORROW! But tomorrow never comes! This has been going on for five years……I’m about at my wits end…..you are the only professional I’ve come across that “gets it”. Do you have any advice to help me jump start my motivation once and for all? I am so tired! Thank you so much for reading my post and for writing the book!
